Hum Kisan Sangathan in Jhalawar district, Rajasthan, has been working towards expanding their weaver’s cooperative – Adarsh Hathkargha Cooperative Society – which was established in 2004. In the past one year 10 new weavers received training and 8 new handlooms were purchased. AHCS now has a total of 22 handlooms and employs 30 people. The clothes are being sold widely in exhibitions in different metros and also sourced to a Kolkata-based company Khaddar.
The committee has earned a profit of Rs. 4 lakh so far and is planning to invest a part of this sum in few more handlooms as well as training workshops for more weavers this year. The weavers visited Mangarol and Kota for a two-day educational trip to study the renowned Kota doriya which is produced here.
